Video: Syrian government troops conquer Palmyra from IS back – STERN

Syrian government forces according to a report on state television, the city of Palmyra from the Islamist militia IS recaptured. The army and allied militia had full control of the desert city, the TV reported on Sunday. The opposition near Observatory for Human Rights reported that the main contingent of the IS had withdrawn from the city towards the east. Only in the eastern districts there have still been fighting in the morning. The army is supported by the Syrian and the Russian Air Force. The agreed for Syria ceasefire does not apply to the fight against IS. The government soldiers were now in the process of removing mines and bombs that had been set by the IS-fighters in the city, the television reported, citing military circles. In the ongoing struggle for three weeks to Palmyra 400 IS fighters and 180 soldiers and allied with government forces militiamen were killed, according to the Observatory. For a complete conquest of the city would clear the government forces the way forward in the east of the country. Palmyra was taken in May last year of IS-fighters.
