Greece: Alexis Tsipras rejects humiliating conditions – THE WORLD

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras defended the course of the government in the negotiations with the creditors of its debt-ridden country. Greece was ready to close a viable and long-term agreement, but do not accept humiliating conditions, Tsipras said on Saturday the leadership members of his left Syriza party.

Tsipras has asked the international donors of his country to make compromises. “We have made concessions, but we have our limits,” he said. He’ll unreasonable demands, such as the amount of VAT or a further opening of the labor market, do not give in.

At the same time, he reiterated that Greece in the negotiations located on the home straight with the Euro-partners, but there is still much to do. The Greek people can not save even harder. Other pension cuts or drastic austerity measures will not give it emphasized Tsipras. The prime minister accused the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide unsubstantiated claims. EU officials were preparing already to a failure of the negotiations before.

The left-wing government in Athens is negotiating for weeks with the European Union, the European Central Bank and the IMF on the release of the last tranche of 7.2 billion euros from the current utility. The donors require Athens further economic reforms. The time pressure is growing because Greece after presentation of the Syriza due on June 5, repayment to the IMF can no longer afford without fresh money.
